With a small-town atmosphere and big city access, almost 9,000 people call Clayton home. It is definitely a town with an emphasis on education and family living, known for its top schools, abundant farmlands and neighborly feel. Some call it a melting pot, with happy residents who have landed here from as far away as Alaska; others, like Money Magazine in 1996, call Clayton one of the Top 50 Boomtowns in America. But either way, no one can argue that this 2nd largest town in Johnston County isn’t a terrific place to raise a family. Clayton is located on U.S. 70 and Highway 42, and convenient to both Interstate 40 and I-95. That makes Raleigh, Durham and RTP just a short commute away. Real estate is priced somewhat lower and lot sizes are often larger than in nearby communities, often making Clayton a favorite for relocating families.
